Day 3...The Day the Schedule Begins!

I'll have to add pictures later today, but the general rundown of the day goes something like this...

We decided that a schedule of daily happenings was a good idea for the kids and for us, so from waking to sleeping, we now have a written schedule of events that we will follow each day!  After just one day, I already think things went smoother throughout the day, than they normally do, and with a lot fewer meltdowns from Isaac!

"Helping" mommy make bread...that was a  fail, but we think the yeast was just too old to use.

Esther is doing a good job of finding ways to entertain herself during Isaac's "homeschool hours" in the afternoon, which is a challenge for her, but necessary for everyone's sanity. I tried to include her where possible yesterday, so we'll see how today goes!
Reading "J is for Jesus" to her little penguin from the comfort of a Rubbermaid tote box.

We started with the calendar; talking about what today's date is, what yesterday's was, and what tomorrow's will be.  We also talked about the weather and appropriate clothing to wear outside in it.

Isaac, as most of you know, loves geography, and is really quite good at it. I printed off a regional map for him to color in the states we had recently traveled through on our vacation to Minnesota. He did very well and even colored in the Great Lakes he got to swim in!

Math was a piece of cake. Trying to reinforce the addition facts 1-2, so we did a penguin "color by sums". It was fun and very cute when he was finished (that would be one of those pictures I would put here if the camera were upstairs instead of down!).

Sunny puppy got her walk, for which she was very thankful. Isaac is looking forward to actually walking with Gramma Joyce today so she can see how well he walks Sunny "all by himself".

We moved into Spelling, and knowing how well he reads, we weren't sure how well he could spell. We started with learning how to alphabetize words. He had a great list of 13 words to put in order.  Anyone have some good ideas on how to effectively handle spelling words with a 5 year old who needs words longer than "train" or "maybe" or even "homework"?

We also made a journal page about our trip to the zoo on Tuesday.  The pictures will speak for themselves!
Someone please tell me that Isaac isn't the only 5 year old boy obsessed with bodily functions?!
I drew the outline, Esther gave him an eye, a mouth and spots.

Zeb and Isaac read the Bible story about Peter walking on the water and talked about the various reasons that the disciples would be afraid or why Peter sunk or how they knew it was Jesus...

That was our day in a nutshell.  Oh, the boys went to the library while Esther and I made dinner together!
