Day 6 and 7

Days 6 and 7 and for the next several days; life in general is going to be a little wonky.  Mostly  because Isaac's sleep apnea is completely out of control and we're waiting expectantly (but patiently) on the doc to figure out where we go from here.  In the meantime, we are just trying to keep emotional meltdowns to a minimum and exhaustion at bay and learning at least a few new things everyday.

For instance, at bedtime, Zeb has been reading Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone to Isaac and Esther. Every so often  you hear Isaac ask, "Where does it say ______ ________?". Zeb will either show him the words or instruct Isaac to find them himself. It's amazing the words he is able to find without assistance.  And he's learning how to read people's names, which I think is one of the hardest parts about reading; especially when you have to remember who is who and what happened to them! 

Isaac has a new creative writing workbook by Crayola.  It gives him a start of a picture and a title. He then has to finish the drawing based on the title and then come up with a sentence or two about it and write it down.  He loves this, but he still has meltdowns because he is such a perfectionist when it comes to spelling things correctly and he's tired and doesn't think he can do it himself when he can.

He is also still figuring out money. On Tuesday morning, I am going to take him over the bank to open his own savings account. They match the first $5 they put in and give them a piggy bank and a real savings register to learn how to manage their savings!  Consistency with conversation and pay days are going to be the best learning tool for him.

Isaac has had a recent creative streak in imaging different stories and acting them out with various toys. Legos, trains, and his Schleich animals are probably the favorites.  I love hearing his stories!

Esther continues to be a handful, but she is learning the mantra "If you don't build it, then you don't break it". Never easy for a 2 year old, but even more difficult for a 2 year old with an older brother who builds A LOT!

I'll keep updating this, because I want to make sure we have some record of what we're doing with Isaac. Zeb and I are working out a list of skills we'd like him to master this year and going to focus on achieving those while fostering all of his other very natural talents, abilities, and interests.
